Now the question, is this just a useful tool to make the lives of an engineering technician easier, or the first step to not needing a technician, or eventually even an engineer for that matter? In the article “Why the Future doesn’t need us” it is made very clear that technology is knocking on the door of artificial intelligence, where machines will be able to think and make their own decisions. In respect to that is it possible that the next step for AutoCAD is to not need the engineer to input the information to be calculated? It is highly possible that this will be the case, if technology advances enough eventually AutoCAD will be smart enough to be able to design an entire building on its own with the simplest of input. Perhaps all it will need to be told is the size of the spot on which the building can be located, or a company needs a certain specification for space for a given number of employees and the computer will just think all on its own how the structure, will look the optimal usage of space for it, and perhaps even be able to program a fleet of robots designed for construction to start building immediately.
It is a scary thought to think that so many individuals could become unemployed because of the advancements in technology. Ethically it seems that for such a thing to happen is an absurdity, it is wrong to discriminate against someone because of age or culture, therefore it would seem that it would also be wrong to discriminate based on the simple fact that I just cant think as fast or about as many things as a computer of the future might be able to. With this as a basis I think that ethically it would be incredibly wrong for humanity to be pushed aside simply because a computer can work faster than we can. Also it might be a time for people of science to realize that their advances and so call improvements may become the downfall to being needed in their own professions. We are humanity and ethically for our own sake let us stay in control of what we create.
