With the development of more sophisticated software and hardware, we aren't taking the steps that are needed to protect it from those that mean us harm.
Example: Nanorobotics; the nanites receive their instructions from the man computer. If someone hacked into that computer and sent their own instructions to the nanorobots, s/he could cause a catastrophe.
The article "Why the Future doesn't need us" describes the nightmare scenario in which humanity is so fully accepting of robots that it is no longer necessary for humans to work, and we are led by an elite society that keeps the populace content. If just one of those elites decides to be a god, they could very well do such a thing with the power at their control!
